May 31, 2009 – The Star Ledger profiles Green Recoverings and Mary
At the Hyatt Morristown hotel, guests may have their linens changed daily. If a towel or sheet is discolored or frayed, it is tossed in a bin and taken out with the trash. About two blocks away, homeless men at the Market Street Mission sleep on mats on the chapel floor, their skin sticking to the sweaty plastic.
At least, that’s how it used to be. These days, thanks to the work of Maplewood resident Mary Marzano, gently used linens and bedding from the Hyatt Morristown and other hotels aren’t heading into landfills — they’re going to the mission and other agencies serving those in need. Read More
